The theme for our travel pics this week is E, for Eating.
Today’s image is a bowl of Soto Ayam, at a little restaurant in Nusa Dua, Bali (as you can probably tell by the Bintang beer bottle 🙂 )
Soto Ayam is an Asian variant on Chicken Noodle soup – but not the sort that Granny made for you when you were feeling poorly.
Instead, its an aromatic broth with chicken and flat noodles (or rice cakes in some versions) and with a variety of add-ins. Essential, I think, are turmeric (giving it the yellow colour), lemongrass and lime – and a boiled egg served on top as a garnish.
You’ll find it in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia – and I like the Indonesian version best.
This became my go-to soup in Bali – and it normally costs just a pittance.
Yummy post! 🙂 Make a plan to taste some real Arabian food in Dubai as well. Taste ”kisra” a pancake kind of a thing, which have a unique way of cooking. Visit http://www.iconicdubai.com/ as we help you to explore the land of glamour and mouth watering food.
