The theme for our travel pics this week is M for Madeira.
For Wednesday, it’s the Jaoa Gomes bridge – a 140m high bridge that connects two tunnels near the Madeira Botanical Gardens (where I took this picture from)
Built in 1974, it’s one of the highest structures in ‘Europe’ (although, as I’ve already said, that’s political description rather than a geographic one)
The island of Madiera is extremely hilly, so there are steep roads and tunnels everywhere … but this bridge just impressed me with its clean lines and confidence.
