The theme letter for our travel pics this week is V, for Vietnam. (Yes, I know that was last week’s theme – but we decided to do a V2)
Most tourists, when they go to Vietnam, will be offered a cruise on Halong Bay. So, what’s in store?
Well, when we did a two-day cruise, we spent it on board a boat with about a dozen cabins and a mixed group of passengers from the four corners of the earth.
Activities included Karaoke (I didn’t participate) to making spring rolls (which I not only made, but enthusiastically ate!)
You’ll also be offered excursions such as sea kayaking around the karsts, and climbing up and down 700-plus steps in “surprise cave”.
Those activities are probably better suited to younger passengers, but even in our decrepitude we were catered for.
If your back won’t cope with paddling around for an hour or two, for example, you can hire a Bamboo Boat and have a local boatman (or woman) paddle you around instead.
That means you still get to see the monkeys that live in the island cliffs, and see the amazing rock formations etc.
