The theme for our travel pics this week is C for Churches.
Today, it’s The Cathedral de Notre Dame, in Paris.
This is the western facade … and it’s impressive. But for a truly astounding piece of architecture, check out the eastern facade athttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Notre_Dame_de_Paris#/media/File:Notre_Dame_de_Paris,_East_View_140207_1.jpg with its extraordinary Flying Buttresses – amongst the first in the world, and built to compensate fro the cracks and imperfections that started to appear after the main building had been constructed.
I’d also suggest reading Pillars of the Earth by Ken Folett – it’s a novel, but it contains an amazing amount of detail on construction of cathedrals.
