The theme for our travel pics this week is J, for Jungles (and rainforests) – and for Thursday, we return to Innisfail in Far North Queensland.
No matter what time of the year, and no matter where you look, there’s always a lush, green canopy surrounding Innisfail.
This image is of a Frangipani tree (also know in some places by its genus, Plumeria.)
An interesting side-note about Frangipanis … they are thought to have been native to Central and South America – but there are other theories that the plants were in fact indigenous to the Caribbean and were carried first to the Americas and then worldwide by Catholic priests (explaining why they are widespread in places like the Philippines, but almost unknown in China.)
This particular tree is opposite the Queens Hotel in Rankin St, Innisfail – a street with a lovely variety of Art Deco buildings lining both sides.
