Parasailing in Fiji

The theme letter for our ‪‎travel pics this week is X (Marks the spot).

And for Wednesday, it’s an eXhilarating parasail in Fiji.

The last time we were in Fiji, we had our 30-something niece with us (and her parents).

Monique wanted to go parachuting while in Fiji. Her parents (who would have to have raised ‘Nique’s kids if anything went wrong) weren’t so enamoured of the idea.

So a compromise was struck: parasailing, off shore from our Worldmark resort.

Now, you can parasail solo, or in a dual rig .. and that works out much cheaper, per person.

So I said I’d go aloft, as well.

Now, I am really quite scared of heights .. my wife laughs at the way I keep a VERY firm hold on balcony handrails, for example, if we are anywhere above about the third floor.

So this was quite a challenge for me.

But I am so glad I did it – the views above Denarau Island, just outside Nadi, were spectacular.

We only got to a height of about 30 metres, or the equivalent of a 10-story building – and we were harnessed in so well that all we had to do was sit there and enjoy the view.

Didn’t stop me from holding on for dear life, of course, but the views made it all worthwhile.
