The theme for our travel pics this week is K for Kotor – and we start at the Venetian fortifications, beside the old city.
Kotor, in modern-day Montenegro, has been fortified since the sixth century – on the top right of this picture you can see some walls climbing up to the castle of St John (or San Giovanni if you prefer)
But most of the fortifications you see today were built in the 13th to 16th centuries, when the Venetians ruled the area.
That includes the Kampana Tower (the round structure in the foreground) and Citadel, alongside the Skurda river.
