This week, our Travel pics series has been J for Jets.
And we end with a pic chosen because it’s just plain iconic .. and its about to disappear.
American Airlines has a fleet of nearly a thousand planes .. and a mix of liveries. The most famous is this – the silver fuselage with red-white-and-blue striping and the AA-separated-by-an-eagle logo on the tail.
It is eye-catching, iconic, and allegedly chosen because the original boss of the airline hated painted planes – and his successor said the lack of paint saved costs because the planes were lighter.
But it may be disappearing – with a new livery involving a stark white body and a stylised eagle on the tail.
Which would be a pity.
