The theme for our travel pics this week is B – for Bridges.
Today, it’s San Francisco’s Bay Bridge.
When most people think of bridges in SF, they think of the Golden Gate – but the Bay Bridge is actually older, having been opened 6 months before.
Strictly speaking, the San Francisco – Oakland Bay Bridge is a series of bridges (from SF to Yerba Buena Island, and then to Oakland) and it carries a quarter of a million vehicles every single day.
Its construction was a highly complex engineering exercise – and 24 men died building it.
The Bay Bridge is one of five bridges across the SF Bay – but quite frankly, the Dumbarton, and San Mateo – Hayward bridges are rather boring.
Next time we are in SF, I’ll try to get a picture of the Richmond – San Rafael bridge – which also looks pretty schmick at night 🙂
Beautiful!
